Marisa’s education and lifestyle has groomed her to become one of the most knowledgeable and gifted sports therapists in her field. Before graduating Duke University with a Masters’ degree, Marisa received her Bachelors’ degree in Exercise Physiology. She later went on to receive her athletic training degree as a resident at Columbia and then a Board Certification in Sports Physical Therapy as only one of a few dozen in the state of New York.
Marisa previously worked as the Physical Therapy Coordinator of the ING NYC Marathon where she treated elite and novice marathoners as part of the Elite Racing Series and New York Road Runners Club. She has worked for many sport teams including the US Women’s Soccer team and has covered events from Ironman to the Millrose Games. She also has been an active part of the running and triathlon community as she has completed several Marathons and Ironman distance triathons as well as dozens of half Ironman and other races around the world.
In addition to her work in the clinic, she has spent considerable time in the operating room and anatomy lab to understand all aspects of orthopedic care, and continues to lecture and present on sports nutrition, rehabilitation and care of injury, as her passion also lies in education to help clients lead a pain-free life. She specializes in sports medicine, running and triathlon and avoiding surgery.
Marisa utilizes mainly manual therapy techniques like massage, ART, joint mobilizations… meaning she doesn’t simply sit and watch you exercise. In this way she can use your time more efficiently and effectively to relieve pain and get you back to doing what you love.
